CALL for Energy |
The concept of CALL for Energy implies an effort in favor of climate neutrality, including the generation of renewable electricity, the use of innovative energy demand management solutions and the promotion of energy efficiency based on artificial intelligence, the free exchange of information from hundreds of sensors distributed by Campi or even the production of food in hydroponic greenhouses on top of buildings.

The Energy Initiative at Técnico, in coordination with the Management Council and within the scope of Técnico Sustainability Initiative, proposes a new challenge: the transformation of our campi into a living laboratory - the Campus As a Living Lab for Energy (CALL for Energy) - where everyone is invited to contribute to conceive, develop, test and implement new technologies and climate-neutral solutions in a new co-creation environment that systematically integrates research and innovation, campus infrastructure management and education, seeking to attract financing and involve companies that make these activities possible. |
This effort is in line with the objectives of the European Ecological Pact, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality in Europe by 2050. Técnico thus contributes as a dynamic example of "learning by doing", with society, with the economic sectors and with other partners in the scientific and technological system, betting on its mission of producing knowledge, educating the protagonists of the energy transition and leading by example. |

Técnico Living Lab |
The Energy Initiative proposes to transform our Campuses into a platform where new ideas can be deepened, based on a process of co-creation, development and testing of new technologies and services, aiming to contribute to a more inclusive and sustainable society. |
Técnico Living Lab is based on the concepts of Education, Research, Infrastructures and Collaborations, always centered on people. |
EDUCATION |
Students from different curricular areas can collaborate on projects with Business Partners, taking advantage of the experience at Técnico and the infrastructures, betting on "learning by doing". Examples are projects to promote energy efficiency, intelligent equipment management, heating and cooling systems, charging electric vehicles, promoting more rational use of energy, etc. |
RESEARCH |
Research and Development, particularly when they come together in multidisciplinary areas, are conducive to innovation and development, with added value for companies and startups, reinforcing the contribution of Técnico. The Living Lab concept promotes interaction between partners and the Técnico community in favor of research, allowing the achievement of goals of mutual interest. |

INFRASTRUCTURES |
With the involvement of Técnico's Business Partners, we intend to develop new products and services that contribute to our socio-economic development, based on the use of our infrastructures and our involvement in the testing and optimization of new technologies and systems. |
COLABORATIONS |
Collaborations are made with the purpose of contributing to a connection between the Técnico Community (Students, Teachers, Researchers, Staff and Administration) and its Partners (Companies and other Institutions), and promote the use of Campuses to conduct experiments pilot for climate neutrality, making Técnico a dynamic test platform open to the outside world. |
